Teens Book Reviews | 27 November 2011 | Marina

I’m going to start off my reviews with a review of a book that I read quite a while ago now, and never tire of re-reading.

The Thin Executioner – by Darren Shan

The story is based in an alternate universe… well, it’s not on our world anyways. Jebel Rum, the main character, is a small and scrawny boy who wants to follow in his father’s steps and become an executioner (who are highly respected in this world). To do this, he must set off on a quest to a god. He must take a human sacrifice and finds a slave willing to accompany him on his perilous journey.

I obviously don’t want to reveal too much about the plot of the book, but at the start of the book Jebel is an arrogant, bigheaded boy and by the end of the book, with all he endures, he completely changes. This is hands down the most moving book I have ever read, and it’s very close to my heart. All of Darren’s books are truly amazing, but this one takes the cake.

At certain points it does get kinda gruesome, but it didn’t terrify me so I’d say it’s perfectly fine for 12+ year olds to read. You usually find it in teenage sections of bookstores.

I give this book a 10/10, 5 star, yada-yada. I cannot stress how wonderful it is and hope that, should you choose to read it, you enjoy it and are taken on the amazing journey that I was.

Thank you Darren Shan! <33
