• Portrait of a Vancha

    19 October 2019

One of my favourite characters to write in my Cirque Du Freak books was Vancha March. He always lightened proceedings, even though he had the gravitas of any Vampire Prince, and took his status and work very seriously. Vancha had a great sense of humour, and was never afraid to make himself the butt of a joke. Sometimes it was tricky to work out where the joker ended and the "genuine" Vancha began. Did he truly believe he was a hot-looking ladies' man, or was that just an act? No one was ever entirely sure, perhaps not even Vancha. What I do know is that if he had ever been approached for his thoughts on what an official portrait of him should look like, he would have proffered this drawing by a fan called Ianto and said, "There! Paint me like that! A beautifully chiselled hunk of a man who makes Chris Hemsworth look like Pee-wee Hermann! Because, hey, that's what I DO look like, right?!?" :-)
