Caleb shuddered, stepping out of the school into the surprisingly chilled air. It had gotten colder; it felt ominous, especially considering what had happened. He ignored the nips at his skin, peering at the backs of the couple in front of him. They were staring at the small, gathered group that was left of the evacuated students - even a few adults had stopped to catch what was going on.

Pulling at his jacket, Caleb blew out his cheeks. “We should head off,” he told the three girls in his company. It was only natural, since his father had instructed them all to.

“We should.” Andy agreed, their voice small. It sounded withdrawn, like they were distracted. Their gaze was locked on the officer that was conversing with the crowd. The officer was probably trying to convince them to disperse - they were going to waste their time simply hanging round.

Julia looked over to the police officers and then back at the others before nodding, she had no words, none at all.

With that agreement, Caleb started to lead the way. Andy and Aries were not far behind, albeit all three would pause and look back, checking on Julia. They didn’t not - and preferred not - to lose her amongst this mishap.

The silence amongst them was suffocating. At least, it was to Andy. They would occasionally click their tongue, tap the fingers of their free hand against their thigh, and they would faintly hum. Whilst Caleb ignored it, each new sound was slowly taking its toll on Aries. Though, she bit down on her tongue and kept her silence.

Julia didn’t know what to say to them, she was just trying to get over what just happened and also know she had to prepare for her mother, she was silently regretting telling her mother where she was but then her mother would have found out sooner or later.

After a particularly long series of Andy clicking their tongue, Aries was ready to blow. She clenched her fists, bit down on her cheeks, and tried to think of something else. Anything to distract herself from the array of noises.

Despite Aries’ change in body language, Andy continued to make sounds, trying to do anything to get through the silence. Their eyes were focused upon the ground, a knot in their stomach and uneasy feeling throughout their body. There were going to be more of these events, Andy could feel it, an anxious prickle on the back of her neck.

“Sooo…” She mumbled, trying to break the silence but she just did not know what to say, she was scared about what happened, she wanted to leave but at the same time she had an inkling that she couldn’t and then at the same time as that she wanted to stay.

“So,” Andy repeated, thankful for the break through the silence. It had been getting agitating; Andy had been ready to tear their hair out, or do anything to put it to a stop.

Turning, Caleb blinked at the two of them, arching his brow whilst he waited for them to finish their sentence. The way the wind blew ominously around them, curling its fingers into their hair, their clothing, and brushing over their skin was not helping. He tried to ignore the shivers that wracked down his spine, leaving him nervously on edge.

“This is so stupid!” Aries snapped finally, the irritation that had built up due to Andy’s antics exploding from her.

Julia jumped at Aries outburst, stumbling away. “S-Sorry….” She mumbled looking away and at the ground.

The outburst even startled Andy, who turned to their girlfriend with a furrowed brow. However, both ignore the bug-eyed look that Caleb was giving her. He’d never heard Aries so stressed in her entire life - and she tended to stress a lot.

“Aries,” he tried, gently lifting a hand and putting in on her arm. Immediately, her aggravation deflated, and she was left to stare at him with a scared, stressed gaze. “Remember your technique.” It was a small prompt, but it got a meek nod from her.

She looked ashamed. “Sorry…”

Julia looked at them, blinking, she was kinda confused and a bit startled.

Andy glanced at Julia, “It’s okay. Aries stresses easy.”

Aries was doing her technique, trying to calm down and become less irritated and stressed. It was working, leaving her peering into space and distant from the others. She hugged herself, inhaling deeply.

“Ohhhhh, I see.” She mumbled, looking away from them.

“We should keep moving,” Andy flicked their eyes over to Aries once more, making sure that she’d calmed. They were allowed to relax, only when Aries gave a quick, vague nod. It was obvious that she just wanted to get inside now.

Caleb swallowed, turning around and continuing to walk. He had returned to his silence.

Julia nodded. “Yeah we should.” She mumbled, before following Caleb and the others, that was all she could do, she did not know this place at all, it scared her how much she did not know about a place she may or may not be stuck in forever.

They continued to walk for a few more minutes before they approached the inn. Caleb’s mother was stood just outside, arms around herself and her face white. Her lips parted and a sigh flooded from them as she saw Caleb, relief rooted deep inside her gut.

“Oh, Caleb. Are you okay?” she asked in a worried tone. “Your father called when you left, he told me that something had happened at the school…” Her emerald eyes shining with concern. “How about your friends, are they alright?”

“Mum,” Caleb stressed, flushing slightly in embarrassment. “I think we’re fine… We’re a little shaken, but we’re fine.” He turned to the girls and Andy, watching Andy give a small, quiet nod in agreement.
