Youth Services Book Review | 03 October 2012 | Bonny Anderson

What did you like about the book? This was an amazing and fast paced zombie novel by the master of horror, Darren Shan. This is not your typical zombie book. First of all our heroine is a tough London girl with a buzzed head named B. Not only does B have to deal with a zombie invasion at her school she must put up with her racist, abusive father. Much of the book consists of B trying to figure out whether she believes what her father says about the non-white citizens of England or if she should speak up against him. The action is fast paced and the twist of the zombies being part of a possible plot to eliminate immigrants is original and very twisted. Can’t wait for the sequel, which is due out in January!

What didn’t you like about the book? First off the book takes place in England, but they keep calling football soccer. The inaccuracy kept bugging me. Also, the book just ends! It is quite the cliff hanger. I won’t tell you what happens on the last two pages because that will spoil it, but I am not happy with the ending.

To whom would you recommend this book? Any teen fans of zombie fiction will love this one!!!

Who should buy this book? Public Libraries

Where would you shelve it and why? Teen Fiction

Should we (librarians) put this on the top of our “to read” piles? Yes!! (Unless you are squeamish, also don’t read this while eating!)
