Bedtime And Candles | 10 July 2013 |

Brian Barry, referred to as B, is a high school student living in London. Always struggling to impress his abusive and racist father, B has become somewhat of a bully. At school, Brian targets non-whites when choosing whom to beat up just so he can recap the story to his father later. [NOTE FROM DARREN: THIS IS INACCURATE. BRIAN BARRY IS NOT THE NARRATOR OF THE BOOK.]

When word surfaces on the news that zombies have taken over Ireland, B’s father laughs it off with a racist comment. Even if the event isn’t a hoax filled with CGI graphics, the Irish could stand to lose a few people.

However, the zombie apocalypse becomes less of a laughing matter when the walking dead show up at B’s school. Soon, everyone is fighting for survival. Brian joins forces with anyone he thinks is strong enough to take on the beasts.

It’s a fantastic read, and better still it’s the first instalment in a 12-book series so there’s much more to come. I couldn’t put it down! It’s a fantastic read. Quick, gripping, thrilling, and vicious. I read it in two sitting, the book is around 200 pages so it didn't take me very long at all. It was a good first book, I hope to read some of the other books in the series, as they make good quick reads.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.
