Did anyone else think Wester was annoying? He reminded me of Sam Grest from the Saga, who I also thought was pretty annoying.
He just followed Larten and Seba around as a “second assistant” and for some reason, it bothered me.
So what does my shanster family think?

I didn’t hate Wester, but I found he distracted from the story. Comparing him to Sam actually is a pretty good way to put it.

However - It’s clear that he plays more of an important role than Sam did. Yeah, Sam may have had the same amount of time in one book as Wester did, but Sam’s role was short, quick and to the point really. Wester is still there, making it clear that there’s more to him.

He reminded me of Bill-E a bit
I like and disliked him
He added a companion for Larten but like Larten just being alone with Seba for some reason
At least he added a brother for Larten, maybe i’m odd but it almost seemed like he was replacing Vur
And though we only knew him for a bit I like him better
I wish Darren could have wrote about their training a bit more
All the time gaps! It could have been a 500 page book and not contained enough info (even for being the first in a series)

i found that in a book about larten crepsley they focused a bit to much on

We don’t know that for sure, Perhaps he changes his name, Or Larten and him part ways and never speak again… But as most have realized since my days on hating Bec, those I don’t like I feel should be subject to a pointless death - toaster in the bathtub sort of way… :P

I agree< i hated wester! He was a tag along… i like the book more when it was only seba and larten. Wester did remind me of Sam grest, i didn’t like sam much either. I didnt think that wester needed to be in the story except for maybe when he was first introduced< i thought that they should have left the character after that and let larten move on.

Yeah the second I read he was joining with Seba and Larten, I knew he was destined to a tradgic death.

I didn’t really like him and found him annoying. He definitely is a tag along. I just hope he has some importance in the next book to make him more interesting

I agree, he was pretty annoying. It’s always a good thing to look to the future, however, and hope that he gets a better part in the next book.

Westler just annoyed me…. like alot. Larten told him about vampires and he was like, I have no where else to go so ill just follow you arrond.
I’m sure he will be killed off in the second book right?
He is just a tag along, but those of you who are comparing him to sam… he is nothing like sam because sam had a life and a family who loved him and no real reson to leave them. while westler had nothing and didnt like the cirque that much so he realy had no other choice…. I’m convincing myself to like him… but he still annoys me a lot!

Hes just a character we dont need to HATE him.. Hes a nice person in the book , and gives larten good company. He probably will die yeah .. but he’s obvo there for a reason, darren never just put characters in..:)

For all we know he becomes Gavner Purl. Think about the Darren Shan Saga. He might be a very important person!
