Like most people, I suspected that Wester would be killed in this book, and it would most likely be the reason why Larten would leave the clan. However, I can say that I was beyond shocked when I finished the book. Well played Mr. Shan, well played.
To continue on with the discussion about Wester, I find that he is the most villainous character Darren ever created. He killed his best friend’s love, to further his own distorted cause. He was two-faced, lowly, despicable, and a whole lot of other adjectives I can’t use on this site. Plain and simple, I hate the character.
Sorry, I pretty enthusiastic about this stuff :P

I liked Wester. He did act in the way he thought was truly beneficial to the clan. I think it is a bit far to call him the most villainous character Darren Shan ever created, a vampire who acted a bit rash at one point in his life for what he believed was for the best being more villainous than Qsar Bint?

I kinda had a feeling that Wester and Larten would fight it out, but I wasn’t sure what it would be over. Wester killing Alicia came as a shock.
