(1) To send me an e-mail, please click on the following link: CONTACT FORM
I read every e-mail which is sent to me, but I don't have time to reply to many of them, so please don't expect an answer. You should have a look in the About Darren section before you write to me (or if you want information for school projects), since that's where many of the most-asked questions are answered. Also check out the Messageboard, where you can ask questions of me or other fans, and my Blog, where I often talk about the writing process and include tips for would-be authors.
(2) If you want to send a letter to me (TEACHERS -- make sure you read the note underneath!!), the address (and this is the FULL address -- there are no street names or postal/zip codes where I live!!) is:
c/o Paul Kenny,
I reply with a handwritten, personal letter to every bit of fan mail (and I always autograph my replies), but it can sometimes take a couple of months or more for me to respond -- so please be patient. And don't forget to include your address on your letter, and make it as clear as you can -- I can't write back to you if I can't read your address!!!!
N.B. please do not send books to me through the post to be signed. I do not have a system set in place for the processing of books, and I cannot guarantee that I will be able to return any books sent to me.
N.B. I get LOTS of letters from students who have read my books in class, and who have been encouraged by their teachers to write a letter to me as part of their schoolwork. While I always love reading these letters, I simply do not have enough time to reply to them all. If you are a teacher, and several of your students are writing to me, you MUST send the letters together, in one envelope, and I will send a single letter to the group at the school in response. Please do not ignore this rule, as this might result in your students not receiving any reply at all.
(3) If you live in the UK or Ireland, and are interested in arranging a Darren Shan event, please note that all of my British and Irish events are set up by my publishers, Simon & Schuster, so you'll need to write to them -- and my events are usually arranged through teachers, librarians and booksellers, or a combination of all three. The person to address your letter to is:
Catherine Ward, Simon & Schuster UK Ltd, 1st Floor, 222 Gray's Inn Road, London, WC1X 8HB.
Please let Catherine know as much as you can about your proposed event, i.e. the type of location, expected audience numbers, how you plan to arrange book sales, etc. The more information you can supply, the better. Please also try to submit your enquiry well in advance of when you would like me to visit, i.e. at least 3 or 4 months. Catherine has a large database of requests already on file, and the more notice you can give, the better your chances of "snagging" me.
(4) If you live in another area of the world and want to know if I will be visiting your country, please keep an eye on the Shanville Monthly. I travel to lots of different countries on tour, and always provide lots of advance warning, with advice (where possible) of how to "pitch" for me.
